4PM Monday Tropical Update:
The new forecast cone just dropped from the National Hurricane Center, and we are gaining confidence in the details on what will likely become Tropical Storm Bertha.
Intensification will remain slow given the dry air its battling and the wind shear that continues to push the storms southward from the center.
The most likely scenario remains that the system becomes Bertha tonight or Tuesday and makes landfall in Southeast Louisiana sometime Wednesday.
If it does make that landfall, it will either fall apart or pivot southwestward as a weaker tropical depression, and that is currently reflected in the National Hurricane Center forecast.
There is still a small chance the center reforms farther south, misses land, and stays more coherent as it moves toward Texas, but center reformations are nearly impossible to predict and most often occur overnight.
Thus, tomorrow morning we'll have our answer on if that small chance is still even a chance at all.
So for now, we expect it to be business as usual in Southeast Texas when whatever becomes of Tropical Depression Two passes through our sky late in the week.
We currently have just a 30% chance of rain Thursday and Friday as the wind shear will likely continue to push most of the storms south of the circulation and offshore.
We'll keep you posted and hopefully gain even more clarity over the next 24 hours.
The tail Doppler radar data Hurricane Hunters retrieve and ingest into our computer models tonight should do the trick and help clear up the picture even more.

🌀 Tropical Depression Two Update ✅
The tropical depression swirling off the Florida coast in the eastern gulf has stalled.
What’s currently keeping it in place is the location of the high in the western gulf near Houston, but over the next few days this hear dome will begin to move farther west over Texas and could allow for this tropical disturbance to do the same.
Currently Potential Storm Two is forecast to become Tropical Storm Bertha by Monday night and track along the Gulf Coast throughout the week.
Though as you may have seen, the cone is quite large and there is still some uncertainty as to where this storm will track and its potential intensity. Some of those factors as to why includes its interaction with wind shear, the coastline and depth of warm waters in the gulf.
Nevertheless there are three potential outcomes that have emerged.
The first would be if this storm spins northwest closer to the panhandle and makes landfall there early this week before fizzling out.
The second is the current NHC outlook which keeps this storm in tact, tracking westward along the coastline towards Texas by the end of the week. This would likely bring tropical storm-like impacts of some kind to the Fayette County
area.
The last outcome is the one that could be more severe, which is if this potential storm stays over open waters farther away from the coast.
This would allow for further intensification and keeps Southeast Texas on the “dirty” side of the storm (though with no direct landfall). Landfall would likely be a little farther south along the Texas Coast.
And the reason for this uncertainty?
In some ways, it’s rare for something like this to happen in these circumstances but not unheard of.
That’s why we want you to stay weather aware this week because of the possibility for there to be tropical impacts in Southeast Texas by the end of the week if conditions are right.
